HOCUS is a community of writers dedicated to the liturgies of literature, the creeds of creation, the sacraments of the synonym. We prostrate ourselves at the temple of Times New Roman.
Our themed readings emphasize prose and poetry of all lengths (from prose poems to novel excerpts) with an emphasis on still-emerging writers. Our events also focus on building community and connections between writers. HOCUS aims to showcase a wide variety of voices and perspectives in terms of race, gender identity, ethnicity, class, age, ability, nationality, regionality, sexuality, religion, and educational background. As a predominantly white organization, we recognize our privilege and white debt, and we endeavor to build equity into everything we do. We explicitly invite people from disenfranchised communities, genders, and those who have been traditionally marginalized, to take part in our programming. We do not tolerate any form of hate in our programs. |
